Great sound, but essentially disposable August 26, 2010 Analog Kid (SF, CA) I really liked the SE210s. So much so that I bought a second pair when the first went bad (lost sound in one ear). And then a third pair (again, lost sound on one side). Now the third pair has broken (stem stretched and broke when changing sleeves) and it's time to find another brand.
The sound quality was fantastic, and I really liked the foam sleeves for use on airplanes. I found I kept them in as ear plugs all the time when flying and just left them unplugged when I wasn't listening to anything. I only wish they were more reliable.
Maybe I'll try Shure again in a few years hoping they have their quality control problems resolved.
do not buy those! August 21, 2010 François (Henderson,NV United States) I bought 2 pairs, for my wife and I, after a while in both cases the left side stop working.
It seems it is a well known problem, I should have done my research and look at the other reviews.
Incredible earphones! July 2, 2010 Ten D (IL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love these earphones. I've owned a pair now for over 3 years. Never had an issue with them. I also, as many others have, learned how to insert these into my ears properly. Luckily, I didn't have to change the pads that were on the earphones when I bought them.
The sound is incredible, even the bass is great and these are the SE210's which don't have the extra bass feature like the SE310's do. To me, the SE210 was the best "bang for the buck" and I've been happy with my purchase even for these 3 years.
I used to travel quite a bit and these were great to have while on the plane. One thing on comfort is that they do stick out a little bit so if you lay your head on a pillow and you lay on your side the earphone may be a bit uncomfortable because it pushes a bit into the pillow. You don't get this with your typical earbuds (like the iPod earbuds). Also, I would hate when people would have music that I could hear from their headphones while sitting next to them. These headphones don't do that! I could blast my music as loud as possible and no one would hear it. I don't like to be a pest so that's important to me.
As far as the quieting feature, I like it better than the Bose type headphones because those noise cancelling headphones, 1- need a power source and need batteries (mostly), and when I use those types of headphones it puts a slight pressure it seems on my inner ears which to me is uncomfortable. These earphones don't do that. They don't cancel out as much exterior sound but even when sitting in the rear of a plane, the sound doesn't bother me when I have music or a movie, etc.. playing. Sometimes I just put in my earphones and don't listen to anything on them just so I can block out noise.
Quality sound, but beware-- they're fragile! June 30, 2010 BlakeT (Guilford, CT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have really enjoyed the sound from these headphones, and continue to take real pleasure in my listening experience whenever I use them. Lots of people have written about that in their reviews, so I'm just writing this to add a practical note of caution based on recent experience. Unless you are extremely careful in your handling of the headphones, they are likely to break within a year, usually where the wiring joins with the plastic body of the headphone. I tried to be good about that, having read about this issue from other reviews here, but life being life, didn't always unplug them and put them in their protective case instead of wrapping them around the iPod and putting it in my pocket. Ah well. The good part is that Shure has a reputable warranty, but you HAVE to have the original receipt for your headphones or you're out of luck, and you should also save the box they come in so there's no question. I have a brand new pair of headphones to replace the broken ones now, and it was an easy warranty replacement, but it would have been a huge pain if I hadn't kept the box and the receipt. Now back to good listening.
excellent! June 26, 2010 mswmha these were perfect, right out of the package! durable cord, outstanding sound, great noise cancelling feature, wonderful comfort.
