hope this review helps September 8, 2010 Malhas (Indiana, USA)
SUBWOOFER:
dont let the word subwoofer fool you. the headphones have an acceptable bass effect, but its definitely not a subwoofer. dont get me wrong, they can generate alot of bass, but it doesnt sound like a subwoofer. its hard to explain, but it feels like a "bass amplifying vibrator" is around your ears, which is a pleasant experience by the way. if u listen to metal, the bass amplifier is not very good for u. u wont be able to pump the bass with metal songs. (in my opinion, u shouldn't need to anyway)
SOUND QUALITY:
the sound quality is excellent (COMPARED TO PRICE). if you're (like me) used to one of the BOSE headphones then you'll feel that these headphones have "crappy" sound quality. however, the BOSE headphones im talking about cost $300.. these cost $42.. ull get much more out of these headphones than the BOSE ones (if u adjust for price difference).
APPEARCE, DESIGN, AND GENERAL LOOK:
this is where i became a skullcandy fan! the headphones have a superb design. they look amazing. they DONT feel like they were made with cheap products. they fit very comfortably. they can fold neatly to almost 1/3 their size to be put in this really cool case/bag. there is so much more that amazed me regarding their general look and feel. generally speaking, the quality of this product compared to it's price is just super!!!
after this experience, i would buy any skullcandy product without hesitation!
if ur looking for the best sound, then pull out your checkbook and buy something like BOSE.
if u have $50 and want to buy headphones, then look no further!!!!!!!!!!
(in case you're wondering, they do not have noise canceling.)
These rock! Cool BASS affect! September 6, 2010 jdmutual Wow! Bought these for my Dad because he uses a portable DVD player to workout. He uses these everyday and couldnt be happier! I tried them out to make sure what I ordered was good enought for him and I didnt want to take them off. I had never experienced BASS from headphones. Awesome deal and awesome price!! Plus a great gift. Requires battery for the BASS power but well worth it!
Great headphones for the price! September 2, 2010 kangar0012 At about $40, these headphones are wonderful. The quality isn't perfect, but it is nice. The headphones are comfortable, but as with most over the ear headphones, they get warm and a little uncomfortable if you wear them for long periods of time. The cable is an ideal length at about five feet and is relatively thick. The in-line sub-woofer amp is sometimes a nuisance, but I have had few problems with it. The bass produced by the sub-woofers is nice and adjustable (at full power, the bass IMO is extremely excessive). I found that the bass sounds in most rock music are not reproduced that greatly in the headphones, but most people won't notice because it's not that bad. The headphones fold up really nice and come with a bag and two attachments, so that's a plus. I listen to rock, rap, electronica/dub-step, country, and alternative, and these headphones do good with all of these genres. I have used these headphones for music, movies, video games, and guitar, and I am very satisfied with the quality. I have had these headphones for a few months and they are still in great condition. The build quality and durability seem great, plus the headphones look great. Overall, I am convinced that these are the best headphones you can get in this price range. I am very satisfied with my purchase. I recommend these for people looking for good value over-the-ear headphones, but not to audiophiles.
Either all bass or no bass, it's like either being at a rock concert or the library September 2, 2010 Ummmm.... So I thought the "bass-amplified subwoofer" would be and "option" if I really wanted to jam. It's either no bass that sounds terrible or a ridiculous amount of bass that actually shakes your ears. It's not that I don't like the bass that's offered, I just want the option to listen on a "normal" level. Probably better headphones out there. Definitely comfortable though.
Not Sure What to Think September 1, 2010 king_m1k3 (Harleysville, PA USA) I'm not sure how I feel about these headphones. I purchased them over the summer, in hopes that they would help to keep out the loud airplane engine on my journey home from California. Unfortunately I never got to test them out.
When I first tried these headphones, it was very weird to feel them vibrating my face. After a couple of days, I got used to it and actually started to enjoy it. I played around with a variety of songs and genres and got it actually sounding pretty good for everything.
A few beefs I have with these headphones however is that first off they're not very loud... this isn't that big of a deal though since they do a pretty good job of keeping outside noise out, especially for being passive headphones.
The last 2 beefs are pretty major. The first is the addition of the "bass amplifier". I can understand that this is needed to drive the larger subwoofer drivers that cause my head to shake, but honestly the thing is about 6 inches from the plug and it's so big and awkward I never know what to do with it. If you clip it to your pocket, when you try to take the iPod out of your pocket you have to unclip the driver as well. It might be better if it's positioned further up the wire. Another thing that perplexed me about the driver was the bass sensitivity dial. I found the best sound/bass ratio at very low on the dial and the other 75% of the dial was ridiculously muffled bassy noise. Does anyone keep it up that high? Also the sensitivity on the thing very corse. If you move it a little from your setting you notice a big difference.
The last beef is why I never got to try these out on the airplane. About a week after purchasing these headphones, I was about to leave my apartment but had to get something from the fridge. I bent down to get it and the wire wrapped around my knee. When I stood up, the wire seemed to just pop right out of the little molding where the one big wire splits into individual left and right wires causing my new toy to be rendered useless. I understand there's some sort of warranty, but I don't even know if I want these anymore. My iPod earbuds have been much more versatile and aren't terrible quality.
Perhaps in a few more revisions Skullcandy will have mastered the art of product design, but as for now I feel that these headphones are a little gimmicky and need more work. They are only $40 here on Amazon though so maybe you should just try them out anyway and see if they're for you.
