Surprisingly good September 2, 2010 Brennan Johnson I've had these for about 6 months. I did a lot of research online before buying these and was hesitant when I actually picked them up at the store--the packaging seemed kind of cheap and I was skeptical. I bought them anyway and was surprised by how well made they felt. They are gratifyingly heavy for their size and the polymer cap that fits into your ear seems durable and is very comfortable.
When I put them on, I was surprised by the sound quality and amount of noise reduction. The sound quality still amazes me. These have really good base and rich, full sound. I've had several pairs of headphones and these blow all of them away in quality. They are definitely competitive with headphones over twice the price. I didn't see any advertisement about noise reduction, but as soon as you put them in, the world becomes muffled, and once you turn on the music to a reasonable volume, nearly all outside noise is drowned out. It feels like walking around in a movie, where the scene volume is muted and the soundtrack is all that is heard. They don't amplify the sound of you breathing, either, as covering your ears would do.
The one thing it does amplify is the sound of the cord moving--it is an awful noise that becomes infuriating quickly. Any thumping at all on the cord is greatly amplified. The noise isn't as noticeable when I take them out running, especially if I wear the cord under clothes. It is most obnoxious when sitting still or walking and the cord is accidentally thumped. As annoying as I find this noise, it doesn't even come close to outweighing the pros of these headphones.
I have taken them out jogging and biking, and they are great in the wind, since most of the ear bud is in your ear canal. My old ear bud headphones forced me to crank the volume to the max to hear over the sound of wind. Not so with these. I've accidentally tugged the cord hard a few times while jogging and as a result, the sound sometimes begins to cut out if the cord is bent in just the wrong way. I am sure this would be the case with most headphones, however, so I do not fault them for it. All in all, I love these and would buy them again immediately even if they broke tomorrow. For $50, I don't think these can be beaten.
Pros:
-Outstanding sound quality
-Very good noise reduction
-Comfortable fit
Cons:
-The sound of the cord moving around is loud and annoying
UPDATE!
After accidentally yanking the cord, the metal housing of the earbud snapped apart at the seam. I was able to snap it back together, but it didn't hold very consistently and it came apart a few more times. They still worked perfectly and I'll still keep them as a backup, but it was time to buy a new pair. The first lasted well over a year, if not two years. True to my word, I bought another pair of Titans. Here's what you get with newest version:
-Fancy packaging, and now says 'Hi-definition noise isolating ear buds'
-Different cord--this time it's braided aluminum (according to the package) and has a clear plastic sheath. It looks cooler, but functionally seems just like the last version. Relatively loud thumping sounds are still transmitted through the cord when it is bumped sharply.
-Black silicone earbud fittings instead of clear. There are 3 sizes. There is a significant difference in sound quality depending on the fit--definitely try out the different sizes to make sure you've got the right one.
-Still comes with a nice case.
Bottom line: I'm still very happy with these.
So far so good September 1, 2010 S. Meyer (Boulder, CO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've only had these for a few days, but they sound nice and they definitely do a pretty good job of blocking sound. Not total, but with them in and some music playing, I often don't hear people near me talking.
I recommend them above the J-buds model. The j-buds didn't seem as sound isolating to me, and didn't sound as nice.
Now I just hope they don't break like the J-buds did.
great sound July 9, 2010 Vicki Harper (MORGANTON, NC, US) Love these buds. I was looking for buds to use while riding my friend's motorcycle using my blackberry.
these do an exceptional job with the noise reduction while producing high quality sound,
Shipping was an issue but the product is grand.
skullcandy earbuds June 28, 2010 Bernardo R. Soto these have great sound. treble and bass are well balanced. two things that make these in comfortable is that when running the sound cancellation switch weights heavy making this bouncing action that pulls the earbuds loose and the bouncing action is annoying. these have great sound and are great for everything but running.
Great sound....once the plugs are in place May 1, 2010 A. Gummels I bought these because I was not happy with what I had and was in between these and a pair of Shure's.
The sound is great, once you finally get to plug in these buds in your ear.
I choose the smallest foams and still had a hard time pushing them into my ear.
They kept falling out or "hanging" on my ear canal.
I'm new to this whole ear bud/plug system so it was quite frustrating and time consuming to get them in place, which resulted in me not using them sometimes just because I didn't want to go through that hassell.
So the product itself is fantastic once you get these plugs into place (which happened to me coincidentally I think a couple of times and with patience), but I'm considering buying a different system, hoping to get the same sound as these.
Good job Skullcandy on the sound quality, bad job on me for not being able to get this to work for me.
If you're new to this system: good luck, hope you get it to work for you.
Hardcore users of this system: you won't be disappointed in the sound quality.
