1 out of 5 stars Disappointed Sony user cannot recommend these headphones !!!   August 26, 2010
Robert
Sony needs to state that you need a Reciever that has optical/digital output in order to use the expanded features of this headset.Having to use the analog input the sound of these headphones were horrible.I have a cheap pair of TEAC headphones that put these to shame. I played bluray discs,Playstation 3 games and music and could not get any quality of sound that you would expect from Sony and for the price.I had to push the volume of my Pioneer reciever volume almost 3/4 of the way up to even get decent sound and even then it was not that good. The volume control on the headset was almost impossible to operate and placing headset on the charger was not an easy task. The construction of the product is cheap.I know its the internal operations that make the product, but c,mon Sony put a little more build quality into the product. I am an avid fan of Sony and have total faith in them. However this is a product I cannot recommend. I should have stuck with my first choice, Sennheiser.Having read all the positive feedback on their headphones, I returned the SONY's and reordered the Sennheisers.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not worth the money   June 10, 2010

I exitedly opened the box when it arrived. The first thing I had noticed was on the box it stated that Plasma Screen may affect the signal. It had not stated that on the webpage so I was a bit tiffed about that. Then I proceeded to hook it up. The insallation was really easy. I opted for precharged batteries to go ahead and try the suckers out.

The plasma interference is not a dealbreaker. I listened to the with the TV off and then on. There is a slight hiss, but not bad.

I was however not too impressed with the sound. I expected since these are a Sony product, and on the higher end of the cost spectrum, the sound to be "noticably" diferent. I have a pair of 30 dollar headphones which use the 3.5mm phono jack instead of the optical and the sound is just as good. When you select surround mode on the Sony headphones, the only thing is seams to do is make a repeat of the sound a split second after the original. It is more annoying than enticing. Also there are no user defined setting. They clearly do not have enough bass and it would definitely make the sound better if this could be manually adjusted.

Overall, I will keep this product because I live overseas and the returm would be too much hassle. But I would not suggest this product to a friend.

3 out of 5 stars Sony headphones   May 16, 2010

Sound quality is good but short range. They are sort of loose on the head!

5 out of 5 stars WOW   March 10, 2010

Reading through the reviews before I bought these headphones, I was aware of some of the downfalls. 1) They can't be used with a plasma tv. 2) They have very limited line-of-sight range. 3)They have funny sony-only batteries.
And while these are true, I am blown away by how much I love these headphones. They are incredibly comfortable to wear. Many headphones hurt my hears after a couple of hours. I have a larger head and these don't pinch my ears at all. The foam pads are exceptionally comfortable. I find the sound quality to be more than adequate. I use them primarily for playing video games, and felt like I was really hearing the games for the first time. I've had no problem with battery life, although I'll admit that I probably haven't used them for more than five hours at a time without recharging them. And while these headphones would be a poor option if you plan on moving around a lot, they are great for watching tv, playing video games, or listening to music in a stationary location.

5 out of 5 stars Great Headphones!   March 4, 2010

I've had these headphones for at least two years and I still love them. I use them to listen to TV and find that the battery lasts a fairly long time before needing to be recharged. They're also extremely comfortable. You can't wander very far away from the base at all without them cutting out, but if you know that ahead of time and this fits your needs, they're great. Although I'm not uber particular when it comes to sound quality, these headphones are certainly LOTS better than the TV speakers (I had a 32" Samsung HDTV) - movies sound terrific with these babies on. All in all, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made.
