excellent earbuds August 24, 2010 Kenneth Osherow (Boston, MA) Well, in the tradition of Bose these ear-buds sound very good. They seem to work well with my Android phone and best of all, callers do not even realize that I am on the headset. I'm not entirely sure all the features work perfectly with my particular phone but overall I am very happy with the purchase. The ear buds appear to be very well made and they have that great Bose cache. These are a fantastic companion to my cellular phone and digital music player. I am using these with an HTC Droid Incredible running Android and they seem to work well and sound great with plenty of base.
bose August 18, 2010 Tamer Gurmen (seattle,WA) Great sounding headphones. Microphone does a good job with noise cancellation. Premium Bose sound. The silicon caps fall out easy and are gone forever. There was apparently a quality issue that Bose is aware of and they will send a retro-fitted replacement out at no charge. I do not like the fact that I can not control the volume via the set. No deal breaker for me but it would have been nice.
Sound quality is trumped by poor fit. . . August 2, 2010 Garvinstomp (Chicago or LA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I made the mistake of buying these earbuds in a Best Buy vending machine at LAX. Apparently, there's no return policy except for manufacturer's defect, which a poor, poor fit is not considered. My Shure's, after 3 years, were through. The wire had worn away and I needed to pick up something for my travels.
The packaging is nice and the design of the buds themselves is bold an inspires confidence. Unfortunately, that is where it stops.
The buds have a very poor fit. For anyone who has ever enjoyed the Shure buds that sit in the ear and block out much of the ambient noise, these will NEVER satisfy. They have a very loose fit and allow much of the outside world to intrude in. Since my first experience with these was on an airplane they were tested under pretty noisy circumstances. My Shure headset usually is played at, or just below, 50 per cent volume when I'm on a plane. These, I had to turn up to over 75 per cent just to get a comparable level.
It wasn't just that the fit didn't completely seal the ear, it's that the fit was altogether loose. No matter which attachment I tried the buds never held well. The slightest bit of a tug and they tumbled out of the ear. And unlike the Shure's, the cord doesn't go over the ear, it goes straight up to the ear, meaning there's nothing to reinforce the fit. Working out in these was absolutely terrible as they were always coming out.
As to the sound: I've no idea. Because the fit was so loose there's no way to fully enjoy the sound capabilities. It seems a bit strange that a company specializing in sound would not do everything in its power to maximize the efficiency of its product. The only way to fully appreciate the sound is to push the buds into your ears with your fingers and keep them in place. Once you move your hands you lose, at least, a quarter of the sound.
A total and complete waste of money.
I landed in Phoenix, found another shop selling earphones, bought a new pair of Shure's, and enjoyed ear buds that were properly made. I had to quickly turn the volume down because it was still set so loudly from the previous Bose buds. While it takes a little while to get used to how deep the Shure's fit, they are superior in every way.
Avoid this headset.

used only a few times but nicely designed and sound quality is worth the extra money.
Best I've had... July 24, 2010 J. Bevan (Mansfield, TX USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Over the past few years I've had five different non-factory sets of earbuds first, for iPods, then for my iPhone and iPad. My most recent were Sennheisers which I initially liked a lot, but in the end they lost out because the rubber earbud didn't want to stay in my ear -- regardless of which size I chose. That's too bad because the basic transducer is quite excellent if it would stay in place.
I had a pair of Shures. They stayed in place because of their spongy earbud. Sound was clean. Bass was only so so. The sound had a rather non-musical quality. The best feature is that they stayed in place in an airplane and blocked most of the noise without electronic noise cancellation. the cord was actually too long.
Which brings me to the present Bose earbuds which I purchased for use with both my iPhone and iPad. The bass is the best I've ever heard in an earbud for natural (acoustic) music. Listening to a symphony orchestra with a solo violin, I'd say the highs were anything but muddy -- as noted by another reviewer. I feel the sound is very well balanced and acoustically transparent. I am very happy with them AND, unlike the Sennheisers, they stay in place very well. The Bose earbud is unique and it works. These are the keepers of the three I have cited.
I have also had a couple of pair "noise canceling" headphones. They do cancel the noise of a jet engine, but the way they do that is by introducing equal noise out of phase with the original noise and the two noises, well, cancel. The problem with this is that you're introducing twice as much noise to your ears and I am suspicious that while the ears don't "hear" the noise, they may be injured by it. Somehow those earphones always left me with a headache that I don't get from good earbuds. That may be "just me" -- but after two pair, I abandoned the idea.
For me, right now, Bose earbuds rule !!
