Great Sound... Poor Durability July 27, 2010 NCP (Orlando, FL USA) This is the second pair of these style JVC headphones I have purchased.
The first pair lasted a while before the rubber earpieces started falling off and getting stuck in my ear or falling on the floor. Eventually, the plastic part of the earbud became completely dislodged from its housing.
I purchased a new pair recently and this time, the earbud became dislodged within a few weeks. I don't even use them that often or treat them that harshly.
In JVC's defense... they DID send me a new pair (not blue, however) after I complained about the second pair falling apart... it was well within their one-year warranty period. It took them a while to send the new pair - AND they didn't respond directly or personally to my complaint, so I didn't KNOW they were sending me a new set. It just sorta showed up at my door a few weeks later.
On to the positives: They sound GREAT! Faithful sound reproduction and they block out a LOT of ambient noise.
Very impressive earbuds May 24, 2010 RKN (USA) After reading a lot of reviews I decided that these earbuds should be a great value. They're certainly not the cheapest, but they're not the most expensive either. I happened to come across a set on "another website" that were supposed to be a store return. The price was excellent so I nabbed them. They are supposed to come with 4 sets of earpads but, unfortunately, they arrived with a few earpads missing. At least both of the "memory foam" pads were in the case so I tried those.
As someone else posted, the whole key--and I cannot emphasize this enough--is to get the earbuds fully seated, straight in your ear canal. Otherwise, you will get no bass and you will be like, "These things sound like crap. They are all tinny, trebley sounding." Exactly this happened to me, but I worked with them until I got them fully and deeply seated and then they really sounded great with well balanced bass (at least for my taste). Apparently, this is why the set includes 3 different sizes of silicone rubber pads, plus the memory foam pads, making 4 sets total.
Since my set was missing the medium and large sized silicone rubber pads (the small ones seem to be sized for a child), I started searching for a place to buy some replacements. JVC will sell them direct, but they are pretty expensive by the time you buy the pad set and pay for shipping. So, I started searching on eBay and found that you can buy silicone replacement pads cheaply there. I happened to find one seller who offers a "DF-10 Double flange earbud tip." I decided to give those a try and am extremely happy that I did. The double flange allows the pad to seat a little deeper in the ear canal and seals better than a single flange. They do a a super job canceling outside noise and seem to increase the bass a little more. From a comfort standpoint, it takes a few minutes to get used to them because they seat a little deeper and seal so well. But, since they are very soft silicone rubber (almost like a skin) they do not become uncomfortable--at least not for me.
The only thing I wish is that JVC would have provided about another foot of cord. Overall length, tip to earbud, is about 43" which sounds like a lot, but IMO it's about a foot shy.
So, there you go. I'm happy with these earbuds and I believe they are a great value. I also give you some good options if you happen to lose any of your earpads.
Get what you pay for.. March 5, 2010 Ryan Halvorsen (VANCOUVER, WA, US) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Unless it's this cheap, way awesome, headphone. good bass, hasn't fallen out of my ears once while running, and look good.
Desperately needs an equalizer ... October 31, 2009 MVM 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well the highs come in clearly all right. Waaay too clearly. These earphones are all about treble, and no bass - at least out of the box. I have others sets of earphones made by other manufacturers, running from inexpensive to some very nice ones. And some very nice headphones too. None of them need any equalization to reflect the sound of the music correctly. But without an equalizer, these phones have no bass at all, and the treble is extremely bright. At first, I thought there was something wrong with them, but that is just the way they are. I know this because I bought two sets, and they are both the same. By turning the bass all the way up on Windows media player equalizer, and turning the treble about 6 db down, they sound about right. My hearing is pretty good, and maybe others aren't so sensitive to the high frequencies, so these might sound good to them as-is. But I plugged them into a desktop radio that sounds amazing with all my other phones, and these sound terrible - the highs are just too pronounced. So be sure whatever you are planning to use with them has a decent equalizer. Otherwise you might be disappointed.
I do have to say that the "carrying case" is nice and compact. The multiple sets of earpiece cushions are also very nice - especially the memory foam. You can get a good fit no matter what size your ears are. I bought these primarily because they promised a good fit, and that they do. But the sound quality was taken for granted, and I shouldn't have done that. Too bad.
JVC Air Cushion Headphones March 10, 2009 S. Jang (Portland, OR USA) Really great sound for the money! These stay in place much better for me than standard silicone buds. Not bass-heavy, but well-rounded, which I prefer since i listen to a variety of music.
